Representações sociais da família sobre a deficiência física da criança e suas implicações no cotidiano

Abstract

Programa de Pós-Graduação em EnfermagemO estudo teve como objetivo geral conhecer as representações da família de criança com deficiência física e suas implicações no cotidiano, e específicos analisar as representações sociais da família sobre a deficiência física, as repercussões da deficiência física no cotidiano familiar e o reconhecimento e a aceitação da deficiência física pela família. A tese constitui-se em que as representações sociais da família sobre a deficiência da criança determinam atitudes, comportamentos e práticas de cuidado no cotidiano. Como fundamentação teórica foi utilizada a Teoria das Representações Sociais na perspectiva de Serge Moscovici. Trata-se de um estudo descritivo-exploratório, com abordagem qualitativa, os dados empíricos foram coletados em um centro de reabilitação na região Sul do Brasil, no período de março a junho de 2010. Os sujeitos da investigação foram 20 familiares, composto por 19 mães e um pai. Este trabalho resultou em cinco manuscritos, dois relacionados à revisão de literatura e três referentes à interpretação dos dados empíricos. Esses últimos foram examinados com base na análise de conteúdo, resultando em 12 categorias temáticas, agrupadas em três temas que resultaram nos seguintes manuscritos: o primeiro, Representações sociais de famílias sobre a deficiência física da criança, evidencia-se que a deficiência não é considerada como doença, e a identidade social de que a criança pertença ao grupo dito "normais" foi presente. A linguagem "aleijado", com "defeito" ainda é usada socialmente. O pensamento que as famílias e os profissionais têm ancorado em suas representações sociais sobre a deficiência interfere nas atitudes e comportamentos, influenciando de maneira positiva ou pessimista no modo como a criança se percebe e as interações que estabelece com a sociedade. O segundo denominado, A criança com deficiência física - repercussões no cotidiano familiar; verifica-se que a deficiência é representada por sofrimento, preocupações e o comportamento de superproteção é frequente. Acarreta em grandes transformações no universo familiar, identifica-se no cotidiano a sobrecarga física, emocional, social e financeira dos pais. No terceiro, O reconhecimento da deficiência física da criança pela família, os resultados evidenciam os sentimentos de tristeza no enfrentamento das famílias diante da notícia do diagnóstico, mas mostra, também, que elas adotam ao longo do tempo perspectivas positivas no modo de ver o filho. O modo como o diagnóstico é transmitido pode possibilitar uma nova reconstrução dessa representação. Aspectos negativos na comunicação entre pais e profissionais de saúde são apontados. Conclui-se que o conhecimento das representações pode auxiliar a equipe multiprofissional a compreender a família, que precisa do auxílio dos profissionais para adequar-se a essa nova realidade, seja em relação às exigências de cuidado, ou aos planos e expectativas a cerca daquele filho esperado.The overall purpose of this study is to understand the family's representations of a physically disabled child its implications in everyday life as well as specific goals, analyze the social representations of the family on physical disability, the impact of the physical disability in daily family life and the recognition and acceptance of the physical disability in the family. The thesis constitutes that the social representations of the family on a child's disability determine attitudes, behavior and care practices in daily life. The study was based on the Social Representations Theory proposed by Serge Moscovici and it is a qualitative, descriptive exploratory study. Empirical data were collected at a Rehabilitation Center in southern Brazil from March to June 2010. The research subjects were 20 families, 19 mothers and one father. This work resulted in five manuscripts, two related to literature review and three to empirical data interpretation. The last ones were analyzed by content analysis methodology and resulted in 12 thematic categories grouped below in three themes which resulted in the following manuscripts: First, Social representations of families on the child's physical disability. It is emphasized that the disability is not considered a disease and a social identity that the child belongs to a group called "normal" was present. The language "lame" or with "defect" is still socially used. The notion that families and professionals have anchored in its social representations on disability interferes in attitudes and behavior. This influences in a positive or negative way in how the child perceives herself or himself and the interactions he or she establishes in society. Second, The child with physical disabilities - impacts on everyday family life. It was found that the disability is represented by suffering and concerns and that overprotection is frequent. This brings huge transformations within the family, causing a physical, social, emotional and financial overload on parents. Third, The recognition by the family of the child#s physical disability. The results show the family's feelings of sadness in coping with the diagnosis. On the other hand, it also shows that, over time, the family is able to accept the child in a positive way. The way the diagnosis is transmitted may enable a new reconstruction of this representation. Negative aspects in communication between parents and health professionals are pointed out. Lastly, the evidences indicate that the knowledge of the representations can help the multi professional team to understand the family in need of support to adapt to this new reality and that can be related to care needs or to plans and expectations concerning the child
