Palmyra Wanderley e a educação da mulher no cenário Norte-rio-grandense (1914 -1920)

Abstract

O presente trabalho tem como objetivo analisar a contribuição da escritora e jornalista Palmyra Guimarães Wanderley à educação, através da sua prática de escrita no período que compreende de 1914 a 1920. Busco através de seus escritos jornalísticos produzidos na revista feminina Via-Láctea (1914-1915), de sua idealização, assim como no jornal A República e Diário de Natal, da década de 1920 estabelecer relações com a educação, uma vez que essa mulher produziu nas páginas desses impressos crônicas e artigos a respeito da educação feminina e da condição da mulher. Ao mesmo tempo, traço o perfil biográfico de Palmyra Wanderley relacionando-a ao momento histórico em que viveu. Para atingir aos objetivos propostos, parto para uma pesquisa documental nos arquivos disponíveis, além de utilizar outras fontes como as fotografias e entrevistas com familiares da pesquisada. Os resultados da pesquisa mostram que a preocupação de Palmyra Wanderley com a educação feminina em nosso estado vai além de seus escritos publicados nos jornais e revista em questão. A jornalista esteve à frente da Escola de Comércio Feminino e da Aliança Feminina. Realizou conferência em benefício da Casa de Proteção às Moças Solteiras, instituição de responsabilidade da Aliança que oferecia moradia, alimentação, educação formal e religiosa às operárias da Fábrica de Tecidos Natal. A sua atuação evidencia sua contribuição à historiografia da educação norte-rio-grandense, particularmente, à história da educação da mulher, configurando a sua presença na história cotidianaThe present work has the intention to analyze the contribution of the writer and journalist Palmyra Guimarães Wanderley to the education, throughout her writings in the period between 1914 to 1920. I search through her journalist writings produced in the feminine magazine Via Láctea (1914-1915) her idealization, and as in the newspaper A República e Diário de Natal, in the decade of 1920 establishing relationships with education, mostly because of her production in the pages of the paper articles regarding feminine education and women condition. At the same time I sketch the biographic profile of Palmyra Wanderley relating her to the historical moment that she lived. To achieve the proposed goals I begin with a documental research within the available archives and use other sources like pictures and interviews with her relatives. The results of the research show that the worry of Palmira Wanderley with the education in our state, goes beyond her published writings in magazines and newspapers. She has been ahead of Escola de Comércio Feminino and Aliança Feminina, she has also done a conference in the House of the Young Single Ladies' Protection (Casa de Proteção às Moças Solteiras), institution of the Aliança s responsibility that offered shelter, food, formal and religious education to the workers of the Fabric Factory of Natal (Fábrica Tecidos de Natal).
