The content of the submitted thesis is to determine a methodology for calculation resistance furnaces with indirect heating. In developing of the methodology, we used the theoretical knowledges of converting an electricity to heat and its sharing with an environment, and practical experiences in a construction of resistance furnaces and heating elements, with respecting of economical efficiency of production. We were applied these knowledges in designing of furnace for hardening the classic sodium-calcium glass, with a volume of the batch 2 dm3, that are in industrial practice used mainly in construction, as well as the commercial glass. These furnaces are used by small and medium companies, that are focused on custom pieces, respectively small batch production. Within the methodology, we determined appropriate type of furnace and furnace lining, by defined required size and temperature of the batch. From the values of the heat, required for heating-up the batch and cover the heat losses, we calculated the the required electric power, specific consumption energy and efficiency of electric furnace.
