34th Street Entrance to Crown Hill Cemetery, Indianapolis, Indiana

Abstract

Crown Hill Cemetery, dedicated in 1864 on the highest point in Marion County, consists of 555 acres, including a 1.4-acre national cemetery. Many notable people are buried here, including President Benjamin Harrison, Col. Eli Lilly, and James Whitcomb Riley. Constructed in 1885-86, the stone Gothic-style gateway at the 34th Street entrance of the cemetery was designed by noted architect, Adolph Scherrer
