By Martin's Photo Shop

Abstract

This photograph was taken during the Great Depression. It depicts a bread and soup line. Bundled in winter coats and hats, the men, women, and children wait for food. Out of sensitivity and respect, photographer Kenneth Martin took the photo from behind the line, showing only his subjects' backs.Kenneth Martin later remarked, "How could I show their faces? These were my friends and neighbors." Exhibited as part of "Treasures from the Collections - Celebrating 175 Years: 1830-2005." Third rotation
