Abstract
Forty cars with their drivers and mechanics line-up on the straightaway before the start of the first 500 Mile Race. A crowd of 80,000 spectators are there to witness the event from behind the concrete retaining wall. The pace car, a Stoddard-Dayton with Carl G. Fisher at the wheel, sits to the right of the field.The original nitrate negative was copied with funds provided by a grant from the National Historical Publications and Records Commission in 1990.
