In 1915, Madam C. J. Walker brought a discrimination suit against the Central Amusement Company in Indianapolis for charging her more than the regular admission fee to enter the Isis Theatre. In 1927 the Walker Theatre (now the Madame Walker Theatre Center) was opened as a tribute to her memory
