Abstract

Abraham Lincoln sits in a chair with his left hand resting on the table next to him. His hat can be seen on the table.Published from a photographic negative in Brady's National Portrait Gallery. "Exhausted by a train journey during which he had traveled nearly two thousand miles and visited seven states, Lincoln went to Brady's Washington studio, probably on a Sunday...and sat, absorbed in problems, while Gardner took five poses.
