Theodore Scott

By Charles F. Bretzman

Abstract

Young Theodore Scott was photographed by Bretzman in 1930. The customer card listed Mrs. Elmer E. Scott at 2002 North Alabama Street as the contact person for this portrait of a boy. A check of the city directory found Elmer Scott at that address with his wife Phoebe. Elmer was a lawyer and secretary for the Indianapolis Power and Light Company. The 1930 census listed the couple and their four children, John E. 21, Florence J. 15, Eugene H. 13, and Theodore 11. It is thought that this is a portrait of Theodore but it could also be Eugene. The image has been retouched by the photographer as his freckles, seen in the other two images, are now gone. This image is a preservation copy made from an unstable original nitrate negative. The image is part of Series III
