A 6-day bicycle race was brought to Hinkle Fieldhouse in February 1937. The banked wooden track constructed there was described as one of the fastest in the country. Faculty and students protested saying the race conflicted school activities. A compromise was reached: races were run each day for 11 hours and 45 minutes ending at 2:15 a.m. This allowed school activities to continue and the Wabash-Butler basketball game could be held as scheduled
