Abstract

The first settlers arrived in the area in 1836 and the town was originally called Newton when it was laid out in 1839. The name was soon changed to Rensselaer in honor of its founder, James Van Rensselaer, who came from Utica, New York.Destination Indiana Jasper County Journe
