Sullivan Map of Indianapolis, 1836

By Sullivan

Abstract

Although Congress donated 4 square miles for the new capital city, Ralston only planned for one square mile, doubting the city would ever cover four square miles. Ralston was proven incorrect as seen in this 1836 map. The Mile Square was still the focal point of Indianapolis but the city was beginning to expand.Appears in Destination Indiana 1 Appears in Big Screen Journey Welcome to Monument CircleDestination Indiana Mapping Indiana Indiana at Statehood; Why is this a Circle
