This project seeks to examine the way in which news about the European Union is framed in the Danish media in four weeks leading up to the 2014 European Parliament elections. We have focused on the Danish public service channels, Danmarks Radio and TV 2. We include communication theory such as Agenda Setting, Framing Theory and theories on media & democracy. Through two collaborative subanalyses, a quantitative content analysis and a qualitative framing analysis, we try to uncover what elements of the EU the media draws attention to. Furthermore, we discuss how this can affect citizens’ perception of the EU and how it is discussed in the public debate. We discovered that some aspects of the political process in the EU is not represented in the media, and that the way in which the EU is framed in the news, can create the perception that it acts according to self-interests that are somewhat different from the Danish interests. The depiction of the EU can weaken the audience’s qualifications to discuss the EU on a well-informed basis
