This project investigates in which way gender and the gender-creation-process is reflected in an institution via socio-cultural aspects. Empirical studies by the use of interviews and observation are used to underpin our assumption that gender is socially constructed through discourses and subject positions. This project opposes to the thesis that gender is biologically conditioned. This will be theoretically reasoned and analysed through the use of our empirical work. It is based on three different aspects of interaction, which is assumed to have relational influences, but at the same time play their own important role, which in interplay will be essential for children’s creation of gender in an institution. The focus will be on the following three dimensions of interaction: child to child, child to pedagogue and child to the institutional settings. These are said to have a decisive influence on children’s understanding, creation and development of gender in an institution
