Kreativitet

Abstract

This study, Creativity and learning, examines the concept of creativity. More specifically it examines the different beliefs of its origin. It discusses whether it is an innate ability or if it is learnable. The thesis of this project is: “Will creativity arise from a social context or is it something that is innate and therefore unchangeable? Is there a shift in the demands of creativity from the renaissance to the late modern society, and how does it become visible?” We see a rise and change in the level of creativity through these two periods, which is the argument for picking them. To discuss the origin of creativity, the theorist Helmuth Nyborg, will be used to represent the genetic standpoint. He believes that the social context has little, if any, influence on the creativity of a person. He states that it is all in the genes and not something that is learnable. To complement Nyborg this study involves Sigmund Freud, who endorses the essential view as well. On the other side we have the theorists Teresa Amabile and Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi. They believe that the social context plays a big role in the evolvement of creative ideas. Through analysis of Leonardo da Vinci(1452-1519), the clothing brand Hummel and the Free Encyclopedia - Wikipedia, we were able to discuss where each of the theories were accurate, and where they failed. Also it became clear that there was a great difference in the demands of creativity, this we were able to explain with the british sociologist Anthony Giddens. He explains the reflectivity of todays society and the need for people to be ready for a society that changes constantly. This study has come to the conclusion that there is no definitive way of understanding creativity. It can be explained both genetically and socially, which leads this project to the conclusion that creativity can’t be explained as either genetic or social, but rather a mixture of both
