Work is the primary content for self-realization and social status and therefore a far reaching factor for our life. Work related functional disorder has consequences at several levels. Among these are heavy burden for the public health service and for the industrial sector. Therefore a strategy is prevention, so employees will not be on long term sick leave or excluded from the labor market because of bad psychosocial working environment. The aim for this thesis is to uncover formation of opinion related to psychosocial working environment at a youth residence, which lead to a theoretical basis for implementation of improving strategies. In my analysis and discussion, I will investigate meaning as a central dimension for the overall-appraisal of the psychosocial working environment. Method and theory: This thesis is based on both an empirical and theoretical approach. The empiricism covers. 1. Focus group interview of all staff at the youth residence. 2. Follow up interviews of four cooperators. 3. Interview of management of the youth residence. The interviews were analyzed using Steiner Kvales and Svend Brinkmanns text concerning principles in hermeneutic interpretation. My scientific theoretical frame is based on Hans-Georg Gadamers philosophical hermeneutic. The theoretical approach is based on theory and research concerning the meaning dimension in the psychosocial working environment; Mogens Agervolds theory regarding transaction factors; Betina Dybbroe and Annegrethe Ahrenkiels text regarding improved health at working places; Anita Macs text regarding the role of management and Aaron Antonovskys theory regarding experience of coherence. Results: Based on my analyses, the central themes in the staff formation of meaning is primary related to the practice of management. Based on my analyses of the statements from management, there is a gap between their intensions and the practice of the management, compared to the perspective of the staff. Conclusion: My conclusion is that the practice of management towards the staff is the primary source to problems in the psychosocial working environment at the youth residence. To optimize the meaning dimension as a productive community, which the management partly forms the basis of, some amendments have to be implemented by management
