Studies on the Effect of Colchicine Induced Polyploid of Asparagus

1. The purpose of this study was to induce polyploid of asparagus and seedless female asparagus by the use of colchicine.\ud 2. The concentration of colchicine were 0%, 0.1%, 0.3%, 0.5%, 0.7%. Seeds and growing points were treated with the above solution respectively.\ud 3. Result showed that lenticels and cells of treated plants were bigger than the control (0%). Pollen mother cells from some of male plants were heteroploid (Aneuploids) with pollen large in size.\ud 4. Heteroploid asparagus were grown in greenhouse under careful observation. Selected mutants were propagated on a tissue culture medium till seedling stage. Asparagus thus obtained were used for commercial cultivation
