The ZEUS detector at the HERA collider at DESY Hamburg contains 3 planar drift chambers in the forward (proton beam), and one in the rear (electron beam) direction. With these chambers spatial measurement of charged particle tracks in the polar angle range from 7 up to 28 in the forward, and from 10 up to 20 in the rear direction is covered. The software for track finding and reconstruction of charged particles in the planar drift chambers has been developed on Monte-Carlo events and tuned on real events taken with the rear drift chamber in 1994. It is embedded within the framework of the general ZEUS reconstruction package. With the drift gas mixture ethane /CO_2/ argon in proportions of 7/8/85 the single wire efficiency is 92% and the single wire resolution is 200 #mu#m. The track finding based on this performance level is satisfactory for the lower particle multiplicities in the rear chamber. The software is also suitable for the higher multiplicities and tracks in jets in the forward direction, however this requires the design gas ethane/argon 50.50 for better chamber performance.
