The making of the standard model

By G. 't Hooft

Abstract

The standard model of particle physics is more than a model. It is a\ud detailed theory that encompasses nearly all that is known about the\ud subatomic particles and forces in a concise set of principles and equations.\ud The extensive research that culminated in this model includes\ud numerous small and large triumphs. Extremely delicate experiments,\ud as well as tedious theoretical calculations — demanding the utmost of\ud human ingenuity — have been essential to achieve this success
