ON THE TURBULENCE CHARACTERISTICS IN FREE SURFACE SHEAR FLOWS OVER WAVY BEDS

Abstract

This paper deals with the turbulence characteristics of free surface flows over some artificialwavy beds. The turbulence measuremeists were carried out in a laboratory flume using a hot-filmflowmeter of wedge-shaped type. Two kinds of artificial wavy beds were used. One was a triangular wavy bed, which had asimilar geometry to dune-type sand waves, and the other a redge type, in which various ratios ofseparation to height were used. The experimental investigations were made about the turbulencecharacteristics, such as the turbulence intensity, the skewness factor and the spectrum. This paper deals with the turbulence characteristics of free surface flows over some artificialwavy beds.
