An account of the consecration of the Cathedral of S. John's, Newfoundland

Abstract

"The following accounts descriptive of the reception of the bishops, the consecration of the church, the banquet given by the Irish Society, and the departure of the prelates, are taken from a local newspaper, the Newfoundlander" (p. 4). Catholic Bishop of Newfoundland John Thomas Mullock (bishop 1850-69) consecrated the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist in St. John's on 9 September 1855. The Cathedral's construction had begun under Bishop Fleming in May 1841. Includes extensive descriptions of the building's interior, p. 1-4.Alternative title from p. 1. -- The Cathedral was elevated to a Basilica in 1955
