The classics and the literary translation in Centopagine by Italo Calvino

Abstract

O objetivo deste estudo é apresentar a tradução literária dos clássicos que constam do projeto editorial Centopagine (1971-1985), dirigido pelo escritor italiano Italo Calvino (1923-1985) para a editora Einaudi de Turim, e destacá-los como instrumento essencial para a criação de um cânone. Trata-se de “romances breves” ou “contos longos”, escritos preponderantemente por grandes autores do século XIX.The aim of this study is to present the literary translation of the classics included in Centopagine, an editorial project (1971-1985), directed by the Italian writer Italo Calvino (1923-1985) for the Einaudi publishing house in Turin, to highlight them as an essential tool for creating a literary canon. Those are “short novels” or “long stories”, which were mainly written by great authors of the nineteenth century
