BIOELECTRIC IMPEDANCE PHASE ANGLE CHANGES IN FOOTBALL PLAYERS DURING PREPARATORY PERIOD

Abstract

It is a simple, non-invasive and reliable method for assessing body composition, as well as a field method which allows the practicality of this method compared to the method of measuring skin folds. It is more reliable than body mass index values, and far cheaper than methods such as densitometry, aerial plethysmography, etc. The aim of this study was to determine the change in phase angle value measured by bioelectric impedance in footballers during the spring preparation period. The longitudinal study, which lasted 8 weeks, involved 22 football players from two football clubs from the area of the city of Vukovar. Measurements included height and weight measurements with an estimate of body mass composition made using a Tanita MC780MA analyzer. 22 footballers were evaluated on two occasions: at the beginning of the spring preparation period and before the beginning of the spring part of the competition season. The results show that the values of the phase angle of the first (7.0°) and second (7.15°) measurements differ statistically significantly. The phase angle is positively correlated with the proportion of water in body weight, the proportion of intracellular water in total water, and with% of non-fat tissue in total body weight, while the phase angle is negatively correlated with the proportion of extracellular water in total body mass of water and% of adipose tissue and FMI
