Possible demonstration of ionization cooling using absorbers in a solenoidal field

Abstract

Ionization cooling may play an important role in reducing the phase space volume of muons for a future muon‐muon collider. We describe a possible experiment to demonstrate transverse emittance cooling using a muon beam at the AGS at Brookhaven National Laboratory. The experiment uses device dimensions and parameters and beam conditions similar to what is expected in an actual muon‐muon collider. © 1996 American Institute of Physics.Peer Reviewedhttp://deepblue.lib.umich.edu/bitstream/2027.42/87705/2/146_1.pd
