Alex and Elizabeth Doktor Interview

Abstract

Alex Doktor was born in Hungary on October 1, 1907, and his family immigrated to the United States when he was a child, eventually settling in the Birmingham neighborhood of Toledo. Elizabeth Doktor was born in Ohio on October 5, 1908. Mr. Doktor worked as an accountant for Linde Air Products for 30 years, and then Welders Needs, Inc. for 12 years, retiring in 1970. He was a strong supporter of the Birmingham branch library. When the Birmingham branch was threatened with closure in the 1970s, Mr. Doktor spearheaded a campaign to keep it open. He was a former Cub Scout and Boy Scout leader and organized the first Cub Scout Troop at St. Stephen's church in the late 1930s. He was also an active member at Calvin United Methodist Church. Mr. and Mrs. Doktor celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on October 3, 1981. Mr. Doktor died on October 21, 1981, and Mrs. Doktor died on March 29, 1989
