The present invention relates to a crosslinkable polyurethane coating composition that comprises a polyol moiety, a polyisocyanate moiety, isosorbide, and a solvent comprising dimethyl isosorbide, as well as to a method for producing a polyurethane coating from said composition on a substrate, and the coating obtained in this manner. The invention also relates to the use of dimethyl isosorbide as a compatibilizer for a mixture comprising isosorbide and an aliphatic polyisocyanate
