Abstract

A consideration of how textual scholarship treats the book as physical object, and how it relates to cognate disciplines such as historical bibliography and the history of the book. Introduction to a special issue of Variants: the Journal of the European Society for Textual Scholarship, which publishes revised papers delivered at the Society's Third International Conference, hosted by the Institute of English Studies, University of London in November 2006
