Design of an ultrawideband VHF/UHF antenna for partial discharge detection

Abstract

A compact ultra-wideband printed antenna with co-planar waveguide (CPW) feed is presented for free-space radiometric detection of partial discharge originating from high-voltage equipment. The proposed antenna consists of a bevelled metal radiating patch, two bevelled metal ground patches and a 50 Ω coplanar waveguide transmission line. The performance and characteristics of the antenna operating in the VHF/UHF band (120 ~ 800MHz) has been successfully simulated and designed in order to show broadband matched impedance (VSWR < 2), stable radiation pattern and constant group delay.</p
