R factor = 0.049; wR factor = 0.136; data-to-parameter ratio = 15.3. The title compound, 2C17H20N2O CH2Cl2, was obtained by N-oxidation of the parent formamidine with m-chloro-peroxybenzoic acid (m-CPBA). This is the first use of the abovementioned synthetic route for the preparation of hydroxyamidines.
