In this paper, we argue that the notion of attractiveness is a valuable concepthat can be used and implemented in agent design. Agents must apply prediction, preferences, and strategies to select suitable matches for their client. Ideally, the results of an agents ’ search should be a confirmation of whathe client considers to be attractive. Based on results from social research, some determiners of attractivity in real social situations are fLrst discussed. These descriptions are examined and translated into a proposal for a computational design for social agents. Implications for how atwactivity would be reconsidered in a virtual environment arc also discussed
