Measuring Pilot Eye Fixations: What Have We Learned About Monitoring?


There is a substantial literature on eye-tracking measurement for pilots. These measures offer one method for studying pilot visual attention. This presentation reviews this literature to identify the range of eye-tracking measures used; the primary findings from eye tracking as it relates to commercial transport pilots; and whether we can learn anything from these studies about pilot monitoring. We identify gaps between the process of pilot monitoring and what we can know from studying eye tracking. This is a brief presentation
