. We summarize the design and the implementation of the Con#guration database in the BABAR Online System. We use a commercial Object-Oriented database package with a C++ interface as an underlying engine. The OODBMS technology allows for storage of highly heterogeneous information that represents the con#guration information for various detector subsystems in a hierarchical manner, and e#cient retrieval of such data using a single run-dependent index. The e#cient access to the con#guration data is provided in both Unix environment and in the real-time VME processors which do not have direct access to the database server. We describe the user and programming interface for storing and retrieving the con#guration data from the database, as well as the internal structure of the database and the underlying C++ code. We will also describe the design of the network server that provides type-safe access to the con#guration information for the VME nodes running VxWorks Tornado. INTR..
