Non-Profit Fundraising: Is Crowd Funding a Viable Fundraising Tactic for Non-Profit Organizations?

Abstract

Social media usage in the non-profit industry is still in its infancy, however non-profit organizations are increasingly adopting social media techniques to reach out and engage with their supporters in the hopes of furthering their mission and raise funds. Crowd funding, in which a lot of small contributions are aggregated online to support a cause is proving to be a sustainable fundraising mechanism for non-profit organizations. This capstone surveys individuals and profiles successful non-profit organizations to identify what motivates people to donate online and how individuals engage with charitable causes using social media. The results demonstrate that crowd funding, when properly integrated into the organization\u27s marketing plans, is a viable fundraising tactic for non-profit organizations
