Abstract

Tanzania ’ (SUDERETA) in partnership with the ‘North South Initiative ’ (NSI), Germany, requested support from the German Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) for promotion of renewable energy applications in Tanzania. SUDERETA is involved in dissemination of renewable energy technologies (RET). The NGO helps establish and supports small enterprises (called ‘Enterprises of Trust’, EoT) in rural and peri-urban areas that manufacture/assemble, rent, maintain, repair and recycle RE systems. SUDERETA intends to establish a Revolving Fund to assist establishment (through initial funding) and operation of further EoT. Well-established microfinance institutions and local savings and credit co-operatives (SACCOS) may be involved in providing finance to customers who wish to purchase RE systems. The purpose of the project is to contribute to improvements of living conditions and income generating possibilities in rural and peri-urban areas. The project proposal will be appraised with the participation of the applicants, the target groups and other organisations that could be involved in implementation of such a project.
