A classi cation of the related areas of optical/optoelectronic interconnection network research, electrical-based interconnection network research and computational models is presented. In particular, a holistic viewpoint of optical/optoelectronic interconnection networks is adopted. This viewpoint provides signi cant insight into the important issues regarding optical/optoelectronic interconnection network research, and more importantly, its role in supporting teraop computing.
