Abstract. The response of oxygen uptake (VO2) to exercise is multiphasic, each phase being exponential and often achieving a plateau before the next phase begins. Although the physiological processes underlying this multiphasic response are unclear, we assume that to some extent they reflect processes within contracting skeletal myocytes.
