Eliminating the perception of vocal effort while synthesizing breathy voices

By Karl I. Nordstrom

Abstract

This research concerns the synthesis of voices perceived to have a high degree of vocal effort or breathiness. The application of this research is to the studio enhancement of the singing voice but the research applies to any voice algorithm for synthesizing unique voice qualities. This research could be used to increase the emotional expression of synthesized voices because voice qualities such as breathiness and vocal effort correspond to different emotional states[1]. d
