Equalization of Twisted-Pair Channels via Optimum Filtering and Noise Prediction

Abstract

The transmitting anti receiving filters for digital transmission over a twisted-pair channel affected by additive white Gaussian noise and cross-talk are jointly optimized by maximizing the signal-to-noise ratio at the decision point under the constraint of zero inter-symbol in'tefference A whitening section is then properly designed and cascaded to the optimum receiving filter to reduce the correlation between the samples of the colored disturbance, thus 'obtaining enhanced performance. From the proposed analysis the basic design parameters can be easily computed to optimize the resulting system performance
