Knowledge Based Engineering Methods for Ship Structural Design

Abstract

Within the research project KonSenS, the prospect of knowledge based engineering applied to ship design is analyzed. With an improved integration of knowledge, geometry and manufacturing information an improvement in product quality is achieved. A reduction of design time as well as manufacturing costs can be reached. Series effects can be explored. The integration of KBE methods into CAD systems allow for automatic quality assurance. Decision support is given for standardized tasks
