Multimedia Control Scheme for Inter-Stream Synchronization in Lightweight VoIP Platforms

Abstract — In multimedia streaming services, such as VoIP services and video conference, stream synchronization is an important issue. The quality of multimedia streaming services is closely related on the synchronization performance between multimedia streams. In this paper, we proposed a method for synchronizing multimedia streams by setting synchronization checkpoints based on the cumulative video playback sample number. The average skip rate of our method in audio stream and video stream are zero and 5.513%, while the simulation result of the scheme proposed by Kuo et al. are 5.793 % and 48.423%. The standard deviations of our method are also better than Kuo et al. This indicated that our method is more stable than the method proposed by Kuo et al. 1 I
