Del hogar a la fábrica

By Beatriz Castilla Ramos and Beatriz Torres Góngora

Abstract

The questions we address are: What happens in the family field and relations among their members when women are inserted as workers in maquiladora plants? Which are the reasons for them to stay in their jobs or why do they leave them? What is the meaning of their work? What is the role of the family in deciding whether women should enter or not the labor market? What happens when they are fired or when the maquiladoras are closed? What is the impact of job loss in their families and the relationship with their members? All of this is contemplated from the heterogeneity of the labor market, the sharp contraction of employment in the Yucatan state and conflicts that occur between the workplace and their homes
