Abandonner le terrain des bikers

Abstract

This article aims at providing a self-reflective analysis of the mechanisms that led to stop further investigation on biker gangs by the time I simultaneously entered the ethnographic and academic world. While the sexualisation of the relationship both eased and restricted my access to the field, the decision to withdraw completely stemmed from a denied class judgement. Social (upward mobility) and professional (intellectual training) conditions of integration to academy explain such a denial of the role played by social origins. It is thus necessary to give reasons for the reintegration of this category to analysis, and to understand its effects in a context in which its sociological relevance tends to be contested
