The purpose of this study is to analyze main paleolithic sites identified in sandy gravel layers(artifacts layer) of the lower Han river area through geoarchaeological approach. Sites are located in nearby hills and places that are continuously affected by erosion and sedimentation of slopes, and the formation of sandy gravel layer is related to the early MIS 3. This is the rapid accumulation of soil and sediments, which are accumulated in MIS 4, in reaction to the climate change accompanying a heavy rain in MIS 3. Artifacts excavated in sandy gravel layer are mixed in the redeposit process of sediment, and sorting based on energy of water appears in spatial distribution. In particular, sorting varies according to the curve and gradient of the weathered layer of base rock under sandy gravel layer. Artifact composition may not be stable, but heavy duty tools reflect parts of the aspect of artifacts past to the formation of sandy gravel layer. bifaces are noteworthy, and many chopper-chopping tools and polyhedrons were discovered. These heavy duty tools may belong to MIS 4 through the comparison with surrounding sites. Since the paleolithic sites are discovered today over the course of many years, it is inevitable that they have to face numerous environmental factors. The sandy gravel layer in the lower Han River area, where there are many boulders, shows this aspect very well, and implies that the interpretation of the paleolithic sites requires multidirectional approaches
