The Iberian hamlet of L’Alt del Punxó: agricultural production and peasant settlement in central Contestania

Abstract

En este trabajo damos a conocer un hábitat rural de época ibérica excavado con motivo de recientes obras de construcción de la Autovía del Mediterráneo a su paso por la localidad de Muro de l’Alcoi (El Comtat, Alacant). La aldea está conformada por cabañas, instalaciones de procesamiento agrícola y un camino empedrado que se datan entre los ss. VII y IV aC. L’Alt del Punxó ha permitido un considerable avance en el conocimiento de las formas de ocupación rural y articulación de la actividad económica de este territorio ibérico. La lectura integrada de la documentación permite abordar distintas cuestiones de la organización económica y social de los grupos ibéricos del área central de la Contestania.In this paper we describe an Iberian Iron Age village recently excavated as a result of the construction of a new motorway through Muro de l’Alcoi (El Comtat, Alicante province, Spain). The hamlet consists of huts, agricultural buildings and a paved road dating to between the seventh and fourth centuries BC. L’Alt del Punxó has significantly advanced our knowledge of Iberian settlement patterns and the organisation of economic activity in this area. An integrated analysis of the evidence furnished by the fieldwork increases our knowledge of different aspects of the social and economic organization of Iberian Iron Age populations in central Contestania.Este trabajo se ha realizado en el marco de los proyectos de investigación HUM2006-09874, HAR2009-11441 financiados por el Plan Nacional de I+D+I
