Insight on mortality compression: a cause-of-death analysis of variability in human longevity in Italy

Abstract

In this dissertation I investigate on changes in length of life variability in Italy. Thanks to cause-specific data from 1980 to 2013, I am able to assess the role played by various causes of death on the observed mortality compression. In particular I focus my attention on two aspects of this phenomenon: the changes in the distribution of deaths over a broad age range and the changes in the dstribution of deaths within the old-age range
