Presentation Skills using MS PowerPoint

By Rebecca McCready, Sue Vecsey and Newcastle University

This online practical tutorial looks at the process from planning to presenting a presentation, using MS PowerPoint. In particular, it takes the student through the seven stages of a presentation: planning, structuring, drafting, designing, refining, practising and delivering. At each step, what should be considered is explained, any technical options or implications are looked at, and throughout, students are encouraged to work on their own presentation materials, although an alternative strand is provided. Detailed looks at more complex techniques such as master slides, animations, embedding videos and drawing objects are also provided.
