ABSTRACT
The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of different types of
solvent (KOH and NaOH) and solvent concentration (0.1%, 0.3%, 0.5% and
1.0%) on the characteristics of the carrageenan from seaweed (Eucheuma
spinosum ). The purpose of this study is to obtain the type and concentration of
appropriate solvent in the manufacture of carrageenan from seaweed (Eucheuma
spinosum).
The experimental design used in this study were randomized block
design (RAK) with 2 x 4 factorial with 3 replications. The first factor of the
type of solvent (A) consists of: a1 = KOH and a2 = NaOH. The second
factor is the concentration of solvent (B) consists of: b1 = 0.1%,
b2 = 0.3%, b3 = 0.5% and b4 = 1.0%
The results of the analysis carried out showed that the factor type of solvent
( A ) affect the value of the resulting yield of carrageenan . Solvent concentration
factor ( B ) affect the value of the resulting yield of carrageenan . Interaction of
the type and concentration of the solvent does not affect the entire response .
