La imagen de Cristóbal Colón y el Descubrimiento de América en la ópera alemana durante el Tercer Reich

Abstract

El 13 de julio de 1933 la Radio de Baviera transmitió la ópera Columbus del compositor alemán Werner Egk. Dicha ópera fue el primero de los tres acercamientos al mundo hispánico de este compositor, cuyo ascenso en el mundo musical de su país coincidió con el establecimiento de la Alemania nazi. En Columbus, Egk representó la historia de Cristóbal Colón desde sus entrevistas con los Reyes Católicos hasta su muerte en la miseria, tras su deposición del gobierno de las colonias españolas en América. El libreto, escrito por el compositor, utilizó los estereotipos negativos sobre España que existían en el imaginario alemán para criticar el colonialismo de la época. Irónicamente, la ópera terminaría incorporándose a la cultura musical de la Alemania nazi.On July 13, 1933, Bavarian Radio broadcast the opera Columbus of the German composer Werner Egk.
