A new species of the genus Deppea was collected in the zone of Chimalapas (Oaxaca), area especially rich in rare and endemic species. It is named as D. chimalaparum and belongs to the section Deppea and to the group of small-flowered species with unequal calyx lobes. Within this group it differs from D. obtusiflora (Benth.) Benth. by having deciduous stipules and non-domatiate leaves, from D. inaequalis Standl. et Steyerm. and from D. pubescens Hemsl. by its naked leaves and short, few-flowered axillary inflorescences
