Enhancement of Reflectance and Color Gamut of Quasi-Amorphous Photonic Solution by Surface Modification of SiO2 Nanoparticles with Polydopamine

By ?????????

Quasi-amorphous photonic solutions (QAPS) exhibiting high color saturation and color gamut were prepared by using SiO2 nanoparticles modified with polydopamine (FDA). When colloidal SiO2 nanoparticles were coated with thin FDA shells, the optical properties of QAPS based on SiO2 nanoparticles were significantly enhanced. The reflectance of samples made of SiO2@PDA was higher than that of sample made of bare SiO2 by over 200%. The color gamut of samples made of SiO2@PDA was also improved by 500% comparing with that of sample made of bare SiO2.This work was supported by the National Research Foundation of Korea (NRF) grant funded by the Korea government (MEST) (2011-0017197), Basic Science Research Program through NRF funded by the Ministry of Education (2012R1A6A1029029), NRF funded by the Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning (2013M3C8A3075845), and Industrial Strategic technology development program, 10041221, Core Technology of Materials funded by the Ministry of Knowledge Economy (MKE)
